The automation of the future increasingly requires human and robot to work together safely. But what does safely mean in precise terms? How strong can the pressure and force from a robot be to ensure that injuries do not occur? The technical specification ISO/TS 15066 provides the answer to this question. It regulates the maximum permitted pain thresholds in the event of a collision between human and robot. If the application remains within these limits during contact between human and robot, it conforms to the standard.

The collision measurement set PRMS from Pilz indicates whether force and pressure are within the defined pain thresholds. It measures the force and pressure that result from a potential collision between human and robot. The evaluation is made via the software. As a result, PRMS is used to validate human-robot collaboration (HRC).

If the application remains within defined limits during contact between human and robot, it conforms to the standard. The relevant measurements must be taken for each HRC application, therefore.
